BANANA PEEL FACIAL

STOP! Save that peel!

While your smoothie blends, mix up a quick but hydrating facial from the silica found on the inside of your banana peel. Then sit down for a little self-care facial while you enjoy that deliciously healthy smoothie.

See that beautifully hydrating pulp lining that banana peel. Save it for a quick, skin-quenching beauty mask. Especially great in the dry winter months or when you have been exposed to too much of the sun's drying and damaging rays.

After how dry my skin has been recently due to cranking up the heater inside, this mask rejuvenated my skin and even added a slight glow. Thanks for sharing! –Mallory E.

Today is your day! Well, at least you can claim half and hour to nourish yourself from the inside out. Click one of the smoothie recipes below and enjoy one of our family favorites from the blender. Then use the banana peel to create a super hydrating and vitamin-rich face mask. I even use the peel to make under eye patches to help hold in that moisture and surge some extra vitamins into the areas my skin needs it most (a.k.a., the deep wrinkle zones).

Banana Peel Facial

Ingredients

Be creative here. If you have a serum or oil that you love for your skin, use it here by simply adding it in or substituting it.

  • 1 banana peel

  • 2-4 drops glycerin (I use an organic vegetable glycerin)

  • 2-4 drops of vitamin E oil (direct from a bottle or squeezed from a vitamin capsule)

  • *optional* 2-4 drops of frankincense essential oil (super hydrating and aids in cellular regeneration)

Directions

Get ready to scrape some banana pulp!

  1. Separate peel into long sections that will lay flat on your cutting board surface.

  2. Using a paring knife, scrape the silica pulp from the inside of the peels, creating a pile of mashed banana pulp

  3. Add drops of glycerin and essential oil to the pile of mashed pulp and mix thoroughly, breaking up any larger chunks of banana as you blend.

  4. Apply the mixture to your face, avoiding eye contact. You can do this part with your hands or you can use a facial brush.

  5. Allow mask to dry - about 15 minutes - before rinsing with warm water.

**It is recommended to follow the mask with a nourishing toner (this is my personal fave) and allow to dry completely before taking a moment to admire the suppleness of your skin then applying your regular moisturizer.

This facial can be amped up by cutting sections of the banana peel and placing them on areas of your face where the most moisture is needed. For me, that was under my eyes and on the bridge of my nose.

Why does this work? Well, the silica in the pulp is chock full of vitamins B6, vitamin C, potassium, and even some vitamin A. These nutrients have been shown to hydrate skin and smooth wrinkles. Adding vitamin E helps to neutralize free radicals and thus reduces signs of UV damage. Frankincense is a natural astringent and because of this, it will reduce the size of pores and sebum production allowing your skin to focus on producing the good oils that keep it naturally hydrated.
